Anubias nana

Anubias nana

Anubias nana is a compact, slow-growing aquarium plant native to tropical West Africa. Popular for its attractive dark green leaves (up to 6cm long and 3cm wide) and easy care, it belongs to the Araceae family.

It thrives in low to moderate light, doesn’t require CO₂ injection, and grows well when planted in substrate or attached to rocks or driftwood. Ideal conditions include slightly acidic to neutral water and temperatures between 22–28°C. Though slow to establish, it’s hardy and adaptable.

Propagation is simple—divide the rhizome (the thick stem connecting leaves and roots) into sections, each with several leaves and roots, then replant or reattach.

Beyond its looks, Anubias nana offers practical benefits: it provides shelter for fish and inverts, improves water quality by absorbing nutrients, and contributes oxygen through photosynthesis. With its resilience and minimal care needs, Anubias nana is a great choice for aquarists of all levels.
